Spirituality by Anitra Favors You Make A Difference It's your typical Monday morning and most of us are on our way to work. As usual the traffic is super thick and the subways are packed. You contemplate which will be your commute this morning and decide that the quickest way would be to take the train. Not wanting to wait in the cold, you decide to drive to the station. While in route to the station you see an older neighbor standing at the bus stop. You pull over and ask her if she would like a lift to the station. Her face quickly changes from a frown to a smile as she says "Thank you" and gets in. As you hop back into your lane you fail to realize you cut someone off. Horns roar. "Oh get over it" you say to yourself. Once at the train station you see a parking spot and feel like it's your lucky day that you found one so fast but, little did you know that someone else was waiting on that spot. Still you beat them to it, so the park is as good as yours. You hurry into the station and as you wait on your train you pay a compliment to a young lady on her outfit. Your day hasn't even really started yet already your actions have affected many. Who's? Your neighbor, the guy you cut off, the person in the parking lot, and the lady you complimented to name a few. Have you ever felt like you wanted to leave your mark on this world? Whether you realize it or not you already are. Everyday your actions affect someone else. It may be directly or indirectly but the effects of your actions could be astonishing. Like a pebble being dropped into the sea; what starts out as a ripple can eventually become waves. This is why we must think about what kind of impact we want to make. The older neighbor you picked up avoided catching pneumonia. The guy you cut off had a bad attitude all day which he took out on his employees and his family. It took the person in the parking lot an additional 20 minutes to find a spot. The lady you complimented walked into her interview with confidence and got the job! Whether you think you had something to do with these events or not you can't deny that if there where no you things would have been different. We don't need to have some great accomplishment make our mark on this world. We just need to be mindful of the imprints we make everyday! |
