Fashion Tips For The Ladies by Margaux Glenn

It's a new year. If you're anything like me, a new year spawns a new look. So, it's best to start off the New Year right with some small suggestions from a fashion eclectic. Only so much magic can be packed in to one itty-bitty article, but this is only meant to save you the trouble, because there are enough unintentional fashion victims out there as it is. A simple casual look to rock right now is the classic blazer with pencil thin jeans worn with an ultra-feminine lacy or silk shirt. It is almost finished perfect with low-heeled shoes. (I personally think that the blazer should be patterned or textured for small touch of variety, but plain works just as well.) You can do this look during the day, or when you're out on a cosmopolitan shopping trip chillin with friends. For when you want to go out on a first date, it's sexy enough to keep him impressed and at the same token it keeps much to the imagination...because we all know that not everyone is "Mr. Right". It doesn't give away too much. Creative Commentary: To top this look off, try adding a vintage flight bag to the ensemble. During the day, it not only matches your outfit but it is also big enough to hold books, a laptop, and an extra pair of flats (like sequined Asian flats or ballet style shoes) for when your heels ail you. Note: for girls who don't like wearing heels at all, let go of them altogether and replace them with low running shoes. Puma and Le Coq Sportif are to name a few. Also, try vintage chunky bracelets with the look to add a little more glitz to the glam. Helpful Hint: Thrift Stores. If you think you'll like this look, schedule you and a friend on a shopping trip to your local thrift store. Remember, this is not for the faint-of-heart so if you think you won't like thrift-store rummaging, you probably won't. If you have a little more money to spend, try consignment stores. They're a little neater and in most of consignments, the merchandise is high quality. (Remember I said most and NOT all. There have been some consignment shops I've visited and left totally and completely appalled by the quality of the merchandise. Oh well.) AROUND DC I've noticed so many girls wearing high-heeled sneakers and high-heeled Timberland-type boots. They've been out for months and I wanted to get a pair of them. They look good with tight low-rise jeans, and not much of anything else. They're very easy to wear "wrong". You can only wear it in a limited variety of looks, so do me this favor and don't try to wear these shoes with a dress unless you know what you're doing. Fearless female that you are, you should check them out anyway. To find a good pair of these, a girl told me she got hers at this store in NYC on W31st and Broadway. I'll keep an eye. Meanwhile in Georgetown, Northern Virginia and many other places like San Francisco and Philadelphia, Ugg Boots have been popular. I have three words. DON'T BUY THEM. If you haven't seen them, check a lot of the fashion magazines. They're hideous. You can buy them if you want but you'll be making the worst mistake of your life. Best Accessory: Triple Five Soul book bags. They run from $50-145, but once you own one, you won't be disappointed. They have a million pockets and design is a plus. The material is almost like butter and might I add that they're essentially made for camping ...which means they're heavy duty and made to last. Perfect for the city artist on the go. Other than that, happy hunting and keep your style flow going.
